Supporting Local and National Events

In between travel, work and photography, I try and find a portion of time to support local events and charities, as well as supporting National Charities here in the UK along with a little support overseas.

Together with this I also work with The Prince's Trust as a voluntary business mentor on The Prince's Trust Enterprise programme by providing one-to-one support, guidance, encouragement and inspiration to young people

Matlock Town Team logo

I'm proud to support and be a member of Matlock Town Team.

Matlock Town Team is a group of independant traders who simply want to tell you how amazing their town really is! Made up of dedicated and hard working independent traders, the Team work hard to promote local business and their focus is to make Matlock a better place to shop

The Team's number one priority is to increase footfall into Matlock and they've been working very hard to achieve Parking incentives, while organising and promoting festivals such as Spookfest in Hall Leys Park and Christmas late opening etc. It's all part of the plan to make Matlock more of a community, and to involve local people and businesses in the town as much as possible. While I don't have a business situated in the town, as a member I do assist where I can - especially with promotion and practical support during the events.

The Team also makes every effort to help each other by sharing each other's businesses, or pointing customers to Town Team Member's shops, bars or cafes. It's important to note that the Team work hard to achieve all this on a zero budget, and are not supported by any external funding.

Please visit and like their Facebook page: Matlock Town Team, a website is being constructed currently and will post a link when the site is live.

Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline

I've also given just a little support to the Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline and hope to do so again later this year while wishing Wendy Watson, Becky Measures and all the team the best of luck in raising even more awareness for such a fantastic cause and great achievement.

Guastalla, Reggio Emelia (R.E.)

Guastalla, Reggio Emelia (R.E.)

Many of the manufactures I deal with in business are based in Northern Italy, and because of this I make regular trips to the Reggio Emilia (R.E.) area to visit suppliers. Over many years of travelling through R.E. I have met many wonderful people and become friends with both suppliers and local characters in the region. One such place is a town called Guastalla, and it's neighbour at nearby Gonzaga.

More recently we're delighted to be associated with and promote the Societa Per La Valorizzazione Culturale e Turistica di Guastalla. The Society for the promotion of Culture and Tourism of Guastalla promotes a collaboration between government agencies and other owners for the promotion of Guatalla's history and culture. The Society considers tourism as an inseparable connection of it's history and tradition and I'm delighted to encourage and support them.

Supporting local sports and charities

Proud to have sponsored 'Pennies in the Park' to raise funds for the charity organisation called Aquabox

As well as supporting culture and tourism in Italy I've also tried to offer support more locally and recently made efforts to sponsor the 'Pennies in the Park' Penny Farthing Race on 11th Sept, 2011. The event involved an hours racing in Hall Leys Park at my home town of Matlock, which attracted visitors from all over Derbyshire. More importantly, the event raised over £1000 for Aquabox. The images show both a selection of riders from the race and the following presentations.

Aquabox provides the immediate aid necessary in the event of a disaster providing safe clean drinking water and basic hardware essentials for living. I'm currently discussing ways of assisting the Wirksworth based voluntary team and hope to form a long term relationship with them. I was immediately attracted to the Aquabox product and appreciate that drinking water is the most urgent single problem facing relief agencies after such disasters as earthquake, cyclones or floods etc.

The images taken of the event, are courtesy of Sports Shots Photography, the official photographers on the day. There is a selection of great shots that you can download from their web site, and a news article dedicated to the race itself.

A little closer to home, again, and I've recently sponsored Matlock Football Club's reserve team and wish them success this season. Whether or not we enjoy football (and I'll admit it's not my passion) local sports provide local interest, entertainment, pride and purpose to towns and villages across the UK and local Matlock players deserve local Matlock support. All the best for the season, and please - let me know when you meet for a beer after a game!

Supporting local events

Supporting local events and putting something back into Matlock for people to enjoy is something both I, and other like minded sponsors, feel is important.

Matlock Festival 2014

Once again I'm looking forward to working with the team to put on a great show at Matlock Festival. Held in the beautiful Hall Leys Park in the centre of Matlock, the event is always free to attend and funded by local businesses, volunteers, sponsorship and good will. It's a great day for all the family and, as an organiser, it's enjoyable too and worth all the effort despite the long days!

Entertainment in Matlock

Along with the Matlock Town Team and Matlock Festival, the organisers also put on a few shows in local venues including cabaret and other musical events. Good luck to all the organisers this year when they'll be bringing you more entertainment.

Peter Morley of Morclean sponsoring the Junior Team at Matlock Golf Club

Matlock Golf Club Jnrs

Well done to the Junior Team at Matlock Golf Club and an enjoyable presentation night. It was an honour to sponsor the event and work with the club during the 2013/14 season. On the final day we were able to place banners on the site and we're delighted to have supported the youngsters during the game.

Peter Morley of Morclean provided sponsored t-shirts for the tour

Matlock Rugby Italian Tour

Although I wasn't able to make the event myself the MRUFC Vets had a great time in Italy.

The team seemed to proudly wear their sponsored shirts, based on the photos I can actually publish!

Matlock Rugby Tour of Malaga in Span

Matlock Vets Tour of Malaga 2013

The coach broke down on the way to the airport leaving 20 plus guys stranded at the side of the road. A spare coach and a 'God Loves You' mini-bus came to the rescue and we reached the airport in time. The rest of the trip remains somewhat of a blur!

Lets hope for more tours to come and Rome 2015 is already in the planning stages.

Fiat Cinquecento

Many thanks to Fornasari Cesare at AutoPo SRL based in Guastalla, Italy, for all his assistance in supporting our marketing campaign during 2013/14. He kindly lent us a brand new Fiat 500 to park alongside the 1970's Fiat Cinquecento belonging to my good friend and translator Gino Tosi and we're extremely grateful to both of them.

Save The Children

Brie Turner is the shop leader for the Matlock branch of Save the Children. Brie has been tasked with turning the Matlock shop into a more profitable entity and needs some kind and giving types to help with the DIY, shop upkeep & modernization.

If you can volunteer, or know of any people worth approaching, I'm sure Brie would be very grateful of the suggestions. For example, they need the shop front painting, a secure shed door fitting out the back for additional storage, shop fittings moving around and re-jigging etc. All man stuff, as Brie suggests! Please contact me for info.
